Seven extra beluga whales arrive at SeaWorld San Antonio

SeaWorld San Antonio has welcomed seven extra rescued beluga whales from a shuttered Canadian marine park, bringing the whole quantity relocated to the park to 9 as a global rescue continues.

The seven feminine belugas — Xena, Gemini, Skyla, Meeka, Eve, Neva and Calypso — arrived Tuesday after touring practically 2,000 miles by truck and cargo airplane from Marineland of Canada in Niagara Falls, Ontario. They be a part of Frankie and Bertie Botts, the 2 male belugas that arrived in July as a part of the rescue’s first transport.

The seven newly arrived females are being housed in a non-public habitat away from public view whereas animal care groups monitor their transition. SeaWorld stated caretakers are permitting every whale to acclimate at her personal tempo, looking forward to indicators the animals are consuming usually, resting comfortably and starting to work together with each other of their new surroundings. 

In the meantime, Frankie and Bertie Botts proceed adjusting to life in San Antonio. The 2 rescued males arrived three weeks in the past and are attending to know their trainers whereas slowly being launched to the park’s resident beluga whales, SeaWorld stated. Throughout a media tour final week, trainers stated the pair had exceeded expectations, consuming inside hours of arriving and shortly adapting to their new habitat. Guests can already catch glimpses of the pair throughout behind-the-scenes excursions of the beluga habitat, and SeaWorld expects to introduce them into the park’s main viewing pool within the coming weeks.

To date, 13 whales have been relocated to different parks from Marineland, and extra rescues are anticipated, although officers haven’t introduced when future transfers will happen or how lots of the remaining whales may in the end come to San Antonio.
