
A live performance this Friday by San Francisco’s Turtle Island Quartet will permit San Antonio music followers to rejoice the centennial birthdays of two jazz icons, Miles Davis and John Coltrane.
Booked for the Carver Neighborhood Cultural Middle, the string quartet will carry out Shades of Blue, its Grammy award-winning interpretations of Davis’ and Coltrane’s masterpieces — unique works that each honor and discover these icons’ huge legacies.
Led by composer and violinist David Balakrishnan, the quartet fashioned in 1985, integrating stylistic parts of jazz, classical, folks and Indian classical music.
