Macdona Plaza Park is about to get a contemporary new look, with upgraded sports activities courts, a skate park, shady picnic spots, and revamped playgrounds — all a part of a much bigger effort to breathe new life into this beloved southwest San Antonio gathering place.

The undertaking is being funded partly by $1.2 million from the federal Neighborhood Improvement Block Grant – Coronavirus (CDBG-CV) program. That cash was redirected to Bexar County Parks and Recreation to assist the broader redevelopment effort, which carries a complete estimated price of $6,979,978, in line with filings with the Texas Division of Licensing and Regulation. Protecting 9.4 acres, the work is scheduled to start on September 30, 2025, with completion anticipated by September 30, 2026.

Alongside the leisure upgrades, the plan consists of ADA-compliant sidewalks, expanded parking, water and electrical service connections, landscaping, canine waste stations, and pet-friendly water fountains. A Bexar County Parks and Recreation spokesperson famous the work is a part of a countywide parks grasp plan that tailors enhancements to the wants of every group.

In line with a county undertaking transient, unlawful dumping has been a persistent challenge at Macdona Plaza Park, however officers hope the renovation will encourage larger group satisfaction and extra constant public use.

In a press launch, Commissioner Rebeca Clay-Flores, who represents Precinct 1, described the undertaking as a significant funding in neighborhood high quality of life. The renovation is pending remaining approval from the U.S. Division of Housing and City Improvement, with a public remark interval anticipated to open quickly.

Macdona Plaza Park is situated at 9900 Third St in Macdona, a tiny, unincorporated group southwest of San Antonio. Though not technically a part of town, the city sits simply outdoors Loop 1604, and the park serves San Antonio residents.
