A Texas A&M College professor who discovered himself within the headlines earlier this 12 months when the varsity demanded he take away works from Greek thinker Plato from his programs is once more having a viral second.

This time for firing off a scathing resignation letter over the incident.

In his letter, philosophy professor Martin Peterson rebuked Texas A&M’s more and more harsh crackdown on educational freedom as a part of a coverage by its Board of Regents banning race and gender ideology from school rooms. In no unsure phrases, Peterson argued the coverage threatens the varsity’s integrity and status.

“No different severe analysis college maintains a coverage on ‘prohibited instruction,’” Peterson wrote. “As Chair of the Tutorial Freedom Council, I regard this as an outright violation of one of the fundamental rules of educational freedom. College — not a politically appointed board — ought to management the curriculum.

“As a result of school now not management the curriculum, Texas A&M is shortly changing into an establishment of useless dogmas.”

The resignation letter, tweeted out by Peterson’s colleague, Leonard Vivid — a professor in A&M’s Bush College of Authorities and Public Service — has garnered almost 500 likes and 30,000 views as of press time.

Peterson stated his final day at Texas A&M might be July 31, after which he’ll then tackle a brand new position on the non-public Southern Methodist College in Dallas.

In January, Texas A&M’s Philosophy Division ordered Peterson to take away readings from Plato from his programs as a result of they included “race ideology and gender ideology.” The censorship sparked issues from educational freedom watchdogs concerning the course of public faculties and universities in Texas.
