A North Texas GOP chairman who’s drawn fireplace for a sequence of incendiary on-line remarks has resigned his place and now plans to run for a seat on the Texas Railroad Fee. 

Bo French tweeted out an announcement Wednesday that he’s stepped down as Tarrant County Republican Get together Chairman to pursue a slot on the highly effective three-seat board that oversees Texas’ oil-and-gas trade. 

“This shall be one of the best ways that I can defend Texas, cease the Islamic invasion, and defeat the left,” French mentioned within the tweet.

French, a far-right firebrand within the state’s largest purple county, will face off in his get together’s major towards Railroad Fee Chair Jim Wright, an ally of the GOP institution.

French has made a reputation for himself for a latest string of brash, headline-grabbing antics on social media. 

Earlier this 12 months, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick referred to as on French to resign after the chairman tweeted out a ballot asking whether or not Jews or Muslims pose a much bigger risk to nationwide safety. 

“Antisemitism and non secular bigotry haven’t any place in Texas,” Patrick mentioned on the time. “I’m calling for the fast resignation and substitute of Bo French as Tarrant County GOP Chairman.”
