The Lonesome Rose is celebrating seven years on San Antonio’s St. Mary’s Strip with a four-day music competition that includes performances by Texas and native acts taking part in something from nation and Tejano to indie, psych-folk and past.

SA soul purveyors Eddie & The Valiants and Chavela will kick issues off Thursday with a free present. Mixed, the 2 acts proceed our metropolis’s storied custom as an epicenter of brown-eyed or Chicano soul. Now-legendary acts akin to Sunny Ozuna and The Royal Jesters helped lay the muse for what’s identified regionally because the West Aspect Sound.

Friday’s present will function the intoxicating Western grooves of Rattlesnake Milk. Initially from the Texas Panhandle, the band is now primarily based in Austin, and if August’s packed-to-the-gills Gruene Corridor present is any indication, they’re about to explode.

Rattlesnake Milk is joined on Friday’s lineup by cosmic cowboy and Lonesome Rose co-owner Garrett T. Capps and his band of deep-space desperados, NASA Nation. Tickets to Friday’s present are $20 advance or $25 on the door, they usually’re nearly bought out, in line with organizers.

Saturday’s gig will function Summer season Dean, a Fort Price nation singer-songwriter identified to placed on one hell of a present that’s each honky tonkin’ and filled with confessional storytelling. However Dean’s potential to placed on a present might meet its match with the invoice’s inclusion of Alamo Metropolis rowdies Los Juanos, who deliver their very own plain mix of indie and Tejano to the invoice.

Legendary accordion participant Santiago Jimenez Jr. will spherical out Saturday night time’s lineup, underscoring its high-energy Tex-Mex taste. If their forces mixed gained’t pack the dance ground and get our bodies transferring, we don’t know what’s going to. Tickets for Saturday’s efficiency run $10 upfront and $15 on the door.

The competition closes out on Sunday with yet one more free present that includes native indie dream-pop act Elnuh, El Paso psych-folk group Doom Properly and San Antonio jangle-pop collective Heavy Love.

The wide selection of musical choices this weekend showcases the area of interest the Lonesome Rose has carved out for itself in San Antonio — a honky tonk the place cowboys and weirdos mingle. All the pieces from the twang of pedal metal to harsh, experimental noise rock has graced its stage beneath the every-watchful papier-mâché head of Capps, whose eclectic tastes bridge these many influences.

Although Lonesome Rose is simply now getting the seven-year itch, it’s been cheekily referring to itself because the “oldest honky tonk on the St. Mary’s Strip” for a while now.

Might the street go on perpetually and the celebration by no means finish.
