San Antonio has landed almost $16 million in federal funding to construct a protected bicycle monitor alongside Market and Commerce streets downtown, metropolis officers stated Tuesday.

The grant, administered by the Division of Transportation (TxDOT), will permit the town to construct nearly a mile of two-way, separated bike lanes from Flores Road to I-37. The route for the brand new lanes additionally will embrace Dolorosa, Market, Alamo and Commerce streets, in accordance particulars offered by the town.

The mission additionally will embrace upgrades to visitors indicators and signage together with bicycle and pedestrian security lighting.

“We want to thank the U.S. Division of Transportation and TxDOT for serving to us add world-class bicycle infrastructure alongside necessary downtown roadways,” Public Works Director Razi Hosseini stated in an announcement. “On the Metropolis of San Antonio, we actively search federal and state funding to permit us to tackle new initiatives and additional profit residents. From Metropolis Corridor to the Conference Heart, this cycle monitor will present a safer expertise for all who journey down Market Road and Commerce Road.”
