The Guadalupe Dance Firm is premiering an unique dance manufacturing this Friday that goals to highlight Mexican American leaders and illuminate their tales.
Nuestras Voces: Retelling Our Tales will characteristic unique choreography from the Guadalupe Dance Firm and music from Mariachi Azteca de América that showcases the “plain resiliency” of eminent Mexican American leaders like Jovita Idar and Emma Tenayuca — each of whom fought vigorously to enact change throughout the Texas labor power and sought rights for Mexican immigrant employees.
Nuestras Voces will mix conventional folklorico dance with modern themes and motion to take the viewers “on a journey of enlightenment and empowerment.”
Earlier than Nuestras Voces, the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Middle’s Texas Writer’s Sequence might be held within the neighboring Latino Bookstore and Present Store from 6 to eight p.m.
This month’s visitor authors are John Olivares Espinoza (The Date Fruit Elegies) and Norma Cantú (Chicana Portraits: Vital Biographies of Twelve Chicana Writers).
The free occasion will embody a reception, dialogue and particular ebook signing.
