Yelp is receiving a social media beatdown from Alamo Metropolis residents after the crowd-sourced overview web site snubbed San Antonio on two taco-related lists over the weekend.
In honor of Nationwide Taco Day, Oct. 4, Yelp ranked the highest 100 taco spots within the nation and created an inventory of the nation’s high 15 Taco Cities. There’s only one downside: San Antonio — the Tex-Mex mecca and residential of the breakfast taco, based on many — is nowhere to be seen on both checklist.
Including damage to insult, Yelp named Austin the nation’s greatest taco city, infuriating Texas Public Radio reporter Joey Palacios.
“I want to manage a city-wide boycott of Yelp for this culinary injustice of itemizing Austin as #1 for tacos and never even having San Antonio on the map,” Palacios joked on X, the social media web site previously often known as Twitter. “I am going to even be submitting a White Home petition to right this.”

In response to Yelp, the corporate created its checklist of the highest 100 taco spots by rating taco eating places utilizing elements together with their whole overview volumes and scores. To create its checklist of the nation’s greatest taco cities, Yelp ranked cities by the variety of client searches for “taco” between August 2022 and August 2023.
That technique did not sit proper with native meals reporter Polly Anna Rocha, as famous in her rant printed on MySA.
“There was no workforce of meals critics, no star cooks and no rigorously chosen voting physique to find out which eating places made it onto this rating, simply numbers rolling round in a machine and a author who interpreted the info,” Rocha wrote in her rebuttal to Yelp’s rankings.
For reference, Aroma Latin American Cocina in Henderson, Nevada, was ranked as the perfect taco restaurant within the nation in Yelp’s examine.
Palacios and Rocha weren’t the one San Antonians pissed off at Yelp, nonetheless. X lit up with complaints from loads of Texas taco followers.
“Lol my Houston meals truck has higher tacos than Austin,” person @TonyPeric quipped.
“I do not suppose Austin makes the highest 3 in Texas alone,” @imakethangs wrote.
“As an Austin resident, that is infuriating. San Antonio tacos or bust,” @Digital_Vix3n commented.
It is doable San Antonio did not rank amongst Yelp’s greatest taco cities as a result of Alamo Metropolis residents needn’t seek the advice of the web to discover a good taco spot. Slightly, they drive to their neighborhood taqueria or taco truck.
Regardless of the purpose, deep down, San Antonians know these rankings imply nothing, Rocha defined.
“We do not must be included to be validated,” Rocha wrote. “I really feel the San Antonio taco delight in my coronary heart (and my stomach) each time I go to Taquitos West Avenue, Authentic Donut Store or Taqueria Datapoint.”
