The San Antonio Zoo has received yet one more award — this time for the structure of its nature-based preschool. The Will Smith Zoo College received the distinguished Texas Society of Architects 2023 Design Award, zoo officers introduced Thursday.
San Antonio-based agency Lake Flato Architects designed the varsity, which opened in 2018. Zoo officers stated the award acknowledges the campus’ harmonious mix of academic excellence and sustainable design rules. The zoo launched the varsity to let college students expertise nature, wildlife and conservation by means of immersive, hands-on experiences.
“We’re honored to obtain the Texas Society of Architects’ Design Award, which highlights our dedication to progressive schooling and conservation,” stated Tim Morrow, president and CEO of the San Antonio Zoo. “At Will Smith Zoo College, we imagine in empowering each little one to change into a guardian of our planet’s treasured wildlife and ecosystems. We intention to encourage the subsequent technology of conservation leaders by means of transformative, experiential studying.”
The Will Smith Zoo College, together with the opposite initiatives acknowledged by the Texas Society of Architects 2023 Design Awards, will likely be featured within the September problem of Texas Architect Journal.
